We’re honored to have a free recipe from the internet star, Jennifer Abubakar Teves, a major youtube star. I’ve previously tried her signature apple pie dish and its now one of my all time favourites. I always serve it to my friends and have even made a few improvements to it myself.

We’re told that these tofu steaks are based on an asian recipe that travelled across to Germany and has been improved on over the years. I’ve yet to try the recipe but will hopefully take a shot at them this weekend. I’ve never found a recipe that actually manages to make tofu taste GOOD, so my fingers are crossed. We’d previously seen Jennifer Abubakar Teves recipe over on the adopters blog so we reached out and got lucky.

These spicy tofu steaks are super simple to make. All we need to some slabs of tofu, soy sauce, brown sugar and some chillis. Basically cut the tofu slabs into steak shapes and lightly fry. Next, mix the brown sugar in with the soy sauce and add some crushed chillis. Pour the sauce over the tofu steaks and continue to fry until the tofu browns and the sauce had soaked into them.

That’s it, you’re done! They look yummy and I can’t wait to try them out. Comment if you’ve tried them and got any feedback!

Globe Tattoo is one of the fastest 3G networks in Metro Manila. The only drawback with their service is that their 50 peso per day unlimited surf isn’t so unlimited. They limit your usage to 800mb per day, a combination of your upload and download. So for example, if you upload 300mb of pictures and videos to your Facebook account and watch 400mb of videos on Youtube, you’ll have hit the limit and be disconnected until your subscription expires or until the next day (whichever comes first).

Thankfully, there are hacks and ways to bypass Globe 800mb daily limit. The most commonly used hack is a modified version of opera mini which uses ‘magic ips’ to let you surf without load or after you’ve hit the limit. The thing to remember is that the same methods are used to bypass the 800mb limit as surfing without load. Since both bypass Globes main proxy server and allow you to surf.

The most effective way to surf through Globe Tattoo after you’ve been disconnected due to the fair usage policy is by using a ping tunnel. This tunnel basically acts as a proxy, proxying your connection via pings to a remote server, these pings are not included in your data usage and will continue to work even after going over the limit. To use this, you’ll need a remote server such as a dedicated server or VPS on which to install Hans Ping Tunnel. Alternatively you can strip the protocol information from your http requests which will allow them to pass through Globes proxy without being rejected. However this does cause some problems with certain sites and prevents you from using HTTPs.

openDNS is one of the leading public DNS services out there, with servers located throughout the world. They use anycast IP addresses to automatically redirect your request to whichever of their servers is closest to you. These anycast IPs also allow for your requests to be routed to different servers should their closest server become unresponsive. This means you don’t need to constantly update your DNS settings based on their server availability. If your quite far from one of their servers then you may find that DNS requests take longer than using your ISPs servers.

The openDNS IP addresses are IPv4 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 . Since most users generally set 208.67.222.222 as their primary DNS server, you might want to swap this in your own settings in order to hit the lesser used secondary DNS server of 208.67.220.220

Aside from reliability benefits of using openDNS, they also provide site shortcuts and site blocking. If you’re in an office, you can signup for an openDNS account and update your router to use the openDNS servers. Then you can block sites based on category such as chat, social media, adult content and so on. Or alternatively you can block individual sites, such as youtube.com

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is the city that can be found in the Canary Islands, which is a territory of Spain. More popularly known as simply Las Palmas, this city is full of places you can visit to sightsee and to relax. First up is the northern tip of Las Palmas, La Isleta, from which you can reach the highest point of Las Palmas, which is Las Coloradas. In Las Coloradas you can see a view of the city, the sea around the island, and the mountains surrounding the city.

You can also go see the Auditório Alfredo Kraus, which serves as a home to the Las Palmas Philharmonic Orchestra. The auditorium is a beautiful modern piece of architecture which has ten concert halls in total inside. Also, up north there is the Castillo de la Luz or the Castle of Light, which has seen fights against Dutch pirates and has been declared a national monument for it served as a fortress for the entirety of its existence before it was burned down and restored.

You can also go to Pueblo Canario, which will give you a feel of the traditional Canary Island setup with traditional houses built in the complex. In the pueblo is the Museo Néstor, in honor of Néstor de la Torre, one of those who designed the complex, and the museum contains some of his works on display.

You can also visit the Ciudad Jardin, which was built by the English in the early 20th century when they settled there, and see the Parque Doramas and its landscaping, which is the highlight of the Jardin. There are more sights in Las Palmas, but these are some of the notable places to visit when you are in the Canary Islands and in the city of Las Palmas.

The city of Vienna is full of places associated to art and culture; therefore, you can expect many great places that you can visit there. The architecture on its own is art in itself, as there are different structures around the city that will put you in awe because of their beauty and their magnificence. To get a general view of the city, start with the Danube and the Danube tower. The Danube tower is the highest bungee spot in the world, and you can try and take in the sights while falling or you can just choose to stay on the tower and enjoy the panoramic view of Vienna.

The buildings are worth noting because they show the history of Vienna as a city of culture. The Schönbrunn Palace is a good example of the Baroque period’s magnificence, only outshined by France because Austria did not have sufficient funds. Still, it remains to be in the cultural heritage list of the UNESCO because of its beauty and its historical importance, serving as home to different leaders before becoming property of the Republic of Austria.

Other buildings worth noting are the Burgtheater, which is one of the first theaters of Europe known for its excellence in the arts; the Belvedere Palace, which you can appreciate on its own or you can go inside and find museums filled with various paintings from 19th and 20th century Austrian times; the Hofburg, which shows an earlier, medieval history of Austria and is considered their imperial palace; and the Vienna Opera House, which is reminiscent of the Renaissance period. Vienna is a great place to get ideas of the different eras and their architecture, and a great place to get a feel of Austria’s history.

Japan is one of the world’s most successful countries, and it also happens to be a countryfull of heritage. If you are one of those who like to hike and see historical sites as well, then the fall season in Japan is perfect for you.

The fastest hike would be walking around the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. If you want to just stay in the capital and are ignoring the fact that you’re so near to hotel and you’ve stayed in Tokyo, and you don’t want to tire yourself out too much or you do not have all day to see a historical site, this is perfect for you.

The walk is approximately two hours long and you will be going around the gardens of the Imperial Palace; the Imperial Palace Plaza; the Kitanomaru Park, where you will find a science museum; a crafts gallery; The Nippon Bukodan Hall, where many sports events have been held, and the National Museum of Modern Art, among other things that you will see in the walk. The Imperial Palace provides a view of Japan as the imperial place it once was and it will show how the feudal setup was in the country during those times when Japan was closed to the world.

When one hears of the country Switzerland there is one major sight that people remember or think of if they have not yet seen it: The Swiss Alps. It is such a majestic part of the country that people all over the world travel to see it, and many artists have featured it in their works, be it in photography or in paintings. But there are other places that you can visit in Switzerland aside from The Alps.

You can visit the city of Zurich, and get a feel of how the old Switzerland was in that city through its architecture and the layout of the city itself. Make sure to stop by the Old Town when you are there. Also, you can visit Basel, where museums are situated, so that you can get more of that historical feel for Switzerland.

You can also visit Lugano and see the Lake Lugano, which is a sight to see with its clear blue waters and the greenery surrounding the lake. Then you can go on train trips to be able to see more of Switzerland. You can go on The Glacier Express, which will take you not only through the Alps but through the southern portion of Switzerland as well.

The train ride provides you with great scenery at high altitude so that you can appreciate the whole picture. Make your visit to Switzerland memorable by not just focusing on one point but by making it a point to go to as many places as you can.

Baking need not be a scary experience. It’s an easy and enjoyable thing to do and can be turned into a bonding experience between you and someone you really care about. Leave the complicated things to the pros – there are easy things that you and another person (or other people, if you want to do it as a group) can do in order to bond and to make good food at the same time.

Sometime back I had my cousin help me make butterscotch bars. She was a beginner, so I chose an easy recipe for us to make, and she was scared to make it. But it was easy: in one bowl, I just beat 2 eggs until it’s light and fluffy, then add half a cup of melted margarine, 1 tbsp of corn syrup or molasses (it’s your choice – I’ve tried both and both are wonderful), 1 tsp vanilla extract and 2 cups of brown sugar. Then in another bowl I mix the dry ingredients – 1 ½ cups of flour, 1 tbsp of baking powder, and ½ tsp of salt. I fold the dry ingredients into the wet ones and mix it until well-blended, place it in a greased pan and bake it for half an hour in an oven preheated at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

I let my cousin do most of the job and the bars came out perfect. She was so proud of herself for being able to make such delicious food (one of her favorites, even – she always eats the bars I make) in such a short time. This is proof that good food does not have to be difficult to make.

Have you ever woken up at night and tried to find a light snack but you can’t find anything that satisfies your “no junk food” rule? I have, many many times. What I do in times like these is to go to the kitchen, see what ingredients are available at my disposal, and cook the easiest thing I can think of.

A few months back I couldn’t find a snack that satisfied my palate, even after checking out restaurants in eastwood city, because we have not gone to the grocery store yet, so I took a look at what we had in the fridge. I took a few tomatoes, some white wine, garlic and onions, a little margarine, salt and pepper, threw them together and cooked them in low heat until I had my very own thick tomato sauce. I set that aside, went to get some meatloaf, diced and fried the meatloaf, and I had my snack. I got my oat fiber crackers out, spread the tomato sauce generously, topped it with the meatloaf and some grated cheddar cheese, and I had my own hors d’oeuvres for my midnight snack.

Always remember, a little imagination, a touch of creativity and a few ingredients will help you satisfy that midnight craving. Just look around and you’ll find things that you can eat.

It is true that the quality of your food is only as good as its ingredients and how fresh they are. Those of us who cook always say “choose only the freshest ingredients and use them for cooking in order to get the best meals possible. Even beginners won’t get it wrong if their ingredients are fresh”. But what one has to remember is that your fresh food can be ruined by bad kitchen utensils.

One of the most important and the most used kitchen utensil is the knife. A knife can make or break your fresh food, as blunt knives will ruin the ingredients. If your knife is blunt, you are going to lose the juices that not only make the ingredients fresh, but also make the ingredients tasty. That, therefore, should be your top concern: that the knives you buy are sharp and of good quality. There is always the option to sharpen those low-quality knives once they turn blunt, but you have to remember that the best quality knives do not need sharpening in a few years’ time.

Check for the material of the knives too, as you need a knife that will stand all the acidity and the washing that it may experience in your day-to-day use. Make sure it can resist rust and corrosion, and that it is heavy – heavy knives are those which are forged, with their metal melted and formed into the shape of knives. These are the knives that stand the test of repeated usage and that are resistant to breaking when cutting through tougher objects. Your fresh food is only as good as your knife, and so make sure that you have the best knife available to you.

I gave my palate a great time yesterday with my lunch: chicken parmigiana. It’s basically breaded chicken topped with layers of cheese and your choice of spaghetti sauce, with pasta topped with creamy sauce and a touch of spice from red pepper flakes. This is all rounded topped off with as many parmesan cheese as you can bring yourself to eat. It’s a very simple recipe and can be done in a matter of minutes by beginners everywhere, and it is living proof that good food does not have to take a long time to make.

You make your tomato sauce first: just get a little bit of butter and melt it in a pan. Add garlic and onion, and cook until the onion is translucent, after which you can add a can of tomatoes with the juice and sugar. You’d have to change the temperature a couple of times as it cooks, but basically you cook it in medium heat while stirring it constantly.

After it simmers, you add the cream and salt and pepper, and mix it until well-mixed and you keep the sauce warm afterwards. Of course there’s the option of buying canned tomato sauce and just heating it – just add a can of diced tomatoes for an added punch. As for the chicken, you can buy the boneless chicken breast from your favorite butcher or from your favorite grocery store, and cook the chicken with your favorite combination of breading, cheese, and herbs or spices outside.

You can choose to cook your favorite type of pasta – just follow the instructions outside the container of your pasta with regards to the time of cooking, but cook the pasta in salted water to flavor the pasta. To assemble, just pour the sauce over the pasta and the chicken, and add slices of parmesan and mozzarella cheese on top while it is still warm. Let the cheese melt and, if desired, sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese for an extra flavor.

No one can look back at the seventies and not remember the songs from the time. It was the disco era, the high time for dancing and for producing upbeat songs you can both sing and dance to. Acts like Donna Summer, Diana Ross, ABBA, David Bowie, The Jackson Five, and The Bee Gees pervaded in the airwaves and produced many chart-topping hits that have influenced many modern artists today.

One of my favorites is something that the younger generation is familiar with because Madonna covered the song in the year 2000: Don McLean’s “American Pie”, which was a number-one hit in the US in 1972. Another favorite is Diana Ross’ “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, which was Diana Ross’ first number one single and which garnered her a Grammy nomination. Of course, no mention of the seventies would be complete without the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive”, for who does not recognize the “Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive” when they hear it on the radio? Finally, there’s Donna Summer’s “Hot Stuff”, which was remade in 2005 by The Pussycat Dolls.

What about you? What are your favorites from the Disco Era of music?

Michael Jackson has been labeled everything from a great musician to a freak show, but lately people have been focusing on the issues around him that many forget how brilliant his music is. He was not given the label the King of Pop for no reason – he has five studio albums that have reached best-selling status and has had thirteen number-one hits in the US between the years 1971 and 2003. Songs such as “Beat It”, “Smooth Criminal”, “Billie Jean”, “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You”, and the ever-popular “Thriller”, among other things, have been considered classics in the music industry and serve as surviving proof of why he is considered music royalty.

Apart from being a singer and a dancer/choreographer, Michael is also a songwriter. Most of his popular songs have been penned by him. His experience in the music industry shows in his ear for music, as he has been in the music industry since 1967 as a member of The Jackson Five. Today, in spite of all the controversies that have surrounded him and have continued to follow him through the years, he remains to be one of the best-selling musicians of all time. He has also kept his label as the King of Pop, as he has well proved to the world that he deserves the title with his commercial success and with the critical acclaim he continues to receive with regards to his music. Truly, Michael Jackson is a legend on his own.

The 1960s gave the world many unforgettable acts and songs, but one of the most notable groups from the Psychedelic Era of music that continues to flourish in the music industry today is The Bee Gees. The brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb have succeeded in creating songs that have become classics in the music world. Songs like “To Love Somebody”, “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart”, “How Deep Is Your Love”, “Stayin’ Alive” and “More Than A Woman” have reached international fame in the years they have released them and they have been covered by many artists over the decades following their release. Over the years they have produced twenty-two studio albums and have received many awards recognizing their excellence in music.

Today only Robin and Barry Gibb remain, as Maurice Gibb passed away suddenly in 2001 due to a strangulated intestine. Still, their songs are played on the radio and remain to be timeless pieces which the people still recognize and relate to in the present time. Robin and Barry have also retired the name The Bee Gees, and Robin has moved to pursue a solo career. Recently, though, Barry and Robin have reunited to perform together in a number of engagements. The Bee Gees has been given the Grammy Legend Award in 2003 in recognition of a lifetime of excellent songwriting and hitmaking. I will always remember their songs and enjoy their music no matter how many years pass by.

What songs do you consider automatically attached to a certain situation? There are quite a number of songs I can think of.

Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” has been the anthem of those girls who are about to go out at night since the time it came out in 1983. Its beat instantly lifts the mood, and its lyrics appeal to those who are young and enjoying life as it comes. It’s one of those songs you play while you’re in the car, on your way to a bar with your girls.

98 Degrees’ “I Do”, of course, is something that I associate with weddings, in particular the march down the aisle. The romantic lyrics and the glorious harmony of Nick, Drew, Jeff and Justin make it a perfect song for someone marching down the aisle, with their loved one watching at the end of that aisle. Then there’s “We Are The Champions” by Queen, which of course we hear after one has won something, usually in sports competitions. Since we’re on the topic of sports, Toni Basil’s “Mickey” is something I always associate with cheerleading and is almost always used to cheerleading squads for their routines or at the very least, for practice.

What about you? What songs do you attach to certain events in life?

In 2005, the 31st G8 Summit was held. The primary issues tackled in that year’s summit were global warming and finding solutions to reduce the debt of the developing countries in order to help alleviate the poverty of those nations. According to some, this particular summit did not show much progress – the solution the eight nations (namely Canada, the United States, Russia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom) have come to propose for the issue of poverty is to cancel a certain amount of the debt of some nations, which has been pledged before but has not been carried out as of yet; and to pledge money to help the nations having a difficult time with their economies, which has always proved to be problematic because the money takes time to get to certain countries. As for global warming, the US at the time only considered the activities of men to be a possible contributor to global warming and not an actual fact.

Now, two years later, has progress been made? In the past two years the G8′s continued discussion of global warming has brought the leading nations to admit that man is a major factor contributing to the hastening of global warming. As for the issue of poverty, the summit’s promise of doubling the aid in Africa as the beginning of addressing global poverty has not been met; however, Africa has managed to make their economy stronger because of their natural resources, and now the developed countries are proposing to increase the number of investors entering

Africa as their help for the country. The progress is definitely slower than the appearance of new concerns, but the progress is there. Is it a good idea to let the eight countries play a hand at deciding the rest of the world’s fate? Probably it is, considering that the world is making progress.

In the world today we see our officials having a difficult time coming up with a consensus on what to do or what not to do with a nation’s laws and the implementation of different projects for the good of their citizens. Debates flare in the congress and in the senate for the democratic governments and in the parliament for those with a parliamentary system. There are officials with better ideas than the others when it comes to do, and there are political parties who are more used to governing the nation than the others.

While it may seem ideal for a nation to have one of the raunchiest governing bodies with common ideals, this may prove to be unhealthy in the long run because there will not be room for growth. Let them argue among themselves about what they want to do with the country – a healthy debate is good, so that they can see the different sides to an issue.

Having people with different political views rule a nation makes representation of different sectors of the society easier, and therefore the issues of these different sectors will be made more visible. Through this, the nation will evolve as a whole, and no parts will be left behind because everything is represented and spoken for. Also, no ideology is perfect, and so having people with different opinions fight it over and come up with a consensus after days and days of debates will ensure that every consideration that could come up has already been considered. This will prepare the government more in case there are unexpected events in the future.

The year 2004 marked a year of elections for various nations around the globe. The US presidential elections was, of course, one of the most watched among these elections, not only because the United States is in the front line when it comes to dealing with Iraq, but also because a lot of nations depend on the foreign policies that they implement. The process of having the public elect their leaders has been around for a long time, but that got me wondering when it began and where the idea came from. I know that it has been present since the ancient times, but when did it start being open to all types of people?

This would be a very brief run-through of what you learn about modern election from school. For the longest time, electing one’s officials was only open to men. In the 17th century, the people started abolishing the system of the ruling families, wherein families holding positions have monopolized the government.

They changed their belief into one wherein the public is the one that gives consent to certain people to rule and govern, but only men were given the right to vote as the women were still considered domestic beings at the time. The century after, the world saw a rise in a new aristocracy, which mainly controlled the results of elections in spite of the previous century’s declaration that every man is entitled to choose their leader.

The 19th and 20th centuries saw many changes to the system, including the creation of parties from which the voters can choose their leaders; the fight for women’s rights, which included the right to vote, which was eventually won in the early 20th century; the transfer of power from the aristocrat to the common-man; among other things. In some countries like the US, giving the other races the right to vote did not even take place until past the mid-20th century.

Today there are those who take their right to vote for granted. In the 2004 US presidential elections, for instance, only 60% of the people eligible to vote have cast their votes for their candidate of choice. In a few years’ time there will be another set of elections, and hopefully when people remember how everyone came to have a right to vote, they will take that opportunity to change their world.
